Winter Olympics 2010

Its been a wonderful winter Olympics - best that I can recall. There seemed to be a true Olympic spirit, perhaps because Canada has been there as an ally to the U.S. - especially after 911.  So many great athletes who have worked for years for their olympic moment.  As a way of making the closing ceremonies special, I decided to make Canadian Nanaimo Bars - a favorite Canadian treat.

The great thing about making these was learning about custard powder - a whole new world of desserts has become available to me.  I had no idea that our local market - Kohlers - carried so many British and Dutch imports.  In a way its our own little "Trader Joes" right down the street from me.

This time around I really enjoyed the great stories about Canada and its many provinces. There is so much more than I realized. I really hope that our passports come in soon so that we can venture to Victoria BC over spring break.

Its my birthday and I'll celebrate if I want to!

February was birthday month for me!  I was treated to fantastic dinners by my friends in California the week before my actual birthday. Delicious meals at Sabor and Frankie's in Valencia. YUM!  Then Jay and I had a quick weekend getaway to San Francisco for even more delicious food and adventures in Chinatown.  We had a fantastic meal at Pizzaria Pellegrini in North Beach -- could not believe how fantastic that meal was!!  Afterward - my first trip to see Wicked! - and it was a WOW!!  We were fortunate to have sunny warm weather while we were there and really enjoyed the "down time."  As much as we enjoyed our getaway we were anxious to get home to our boys.  We decided that from now on - we really only need one day away from our boys :)  We kept wishing there were there with us.  Here are a few pictures from the new camera Jay gave me for a gift.

Happy Birthday Jaybird!

Happy New Year and Happy Birthday Jay!  It was a weekend celebration for Jay. We started the weekend with a wonderful dinner party on Friday night. Delicious food and fantastic friends! By the end of the evening, I asked Jay - how do we know such talented people???  We're so average!  On Sat. we had a fun (and funny) dinner with close, dear friends.  We had a great evening of laughs, conversation and yummy food (despite how long it took ;)  On Sunday we had family over for a meal and its always wonderful to catch up with the kids.  We even had the opportunity to catch up with cousin Sam Adams and his beautiful family - Tuire and Daniella.  Overall - a great birthday weekend!
